Overview
The LIG team recently completed a project for London Metropolitan University, showcasing our expertise in the safe handling of rooftop HVAC units. This project involved the removal of a decommissioned air conditioning unit and the installation of a new, energy-efficient replacement atop the University building.
With confined access, and traffic and pedestrian management requirements, the operation required meticulous planning and coordination. Leveraging the skills of our expert team and deploying our Böcker AK 52 truck crane we successfully delivered the project on time and to the high standards we set ourselves at LIG.
Project Highlights: London Metropolitan University
At London Metropolitan University, the scope of work required a well-coordinated approach:
- Confined Access: The urban location demanded precise planning to ensure equipment could be safely manoeuvred into position.
- Traffic and Pedestrian Management: Maintaining safety and minimising disruption to students, staff, and the public was a priority.
- Permit Management: As we were situated in the University access road, no permits were required, but this was considered during the planning phase.
- Successful Execution: Thanks to the expertise of our team and the use of our Böcker AK 52 the decommissioned unit was safely removed, and the new air conditioning system was installed successfully.
The Commercial HVAC Industry in the UK
The UK’s commercial HVAC industry has seen a surge in demand as businesses, educational institutions, and other organisations focus on upgrading to energy-efficient systems.
Thousands of HVAC units are installed or replaced annually in the UK, driven by increasing energy efficiency regulations and the push towards sustainability. Many companies are choosing to replace outdated units to reduce energy consumption, meet environmental standards, and improve the comfort levels for building occupants.
Retrofitting existing buildings with modern HVAC systems is becoming increasingly common, especially in urban areas where rooftop installations maximise space utilisation.
How LIG Supports the Retrofit of Rooftop HVAC Units
Retrofitting rooftop HVAC units presents unique challenges, from navigating urban landscapes to ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding environments. At LIG, we offer a comprehensive end-to-end service that supports every stage of the retrofit process, from transport and storage to the lift of the unit.
We understand that each project requires a tailored approach, taking into account site-specific constraints like confined access, pedestrian safety, and traffic management.
Our highly trained experts are equipped to handle complex lifts with precision, ensuring the safety of both personnel and equipment. With our advanced lifting equipment (e.g., mobile cranes, specialised rigging systems), we ensure even the most challenging rooftop installations are completed efficiently.
From obtaining permits as and when required, to adhering to health and safety regulations, and supplying fully comprehensive lift and transport insurance, we handle all aspects of the project lift to give our clients peace of mind.
