Last-mile generator installation

The job in Lincolnshire called for a straightforward generator install on paper, but the reality of the site made it anything but. The team were asked to deliver and position a 1‑tonne generator at a remote location where the access track ruled out the use of a conventional rigid vehicle. The length simply wouldn’t work, and the turning space was tight enough that every metre mattered.

 

To solve it, the team selected an artic with a HIAB and a 5th‑wheel bed. It gave them the manoeuvrability needed to work through the narrow approach and the lifting capability to place the generator exactly where it needed to be.

 

The choice of vehicle wasn’t just about reach, it was about reading the site, understanding the constraints, and choosing the right combination of transport and lifting to make the job safe and efficient.

 

Recent rain meant the ground conditions were unpredictable, so the team arrived prepared. Hand‑portable track mats were brought in as a contingency, ready to be deployed if the surface softened under load. It’s the kind of planning that doesn’t always make the headline, but it’s what keeps last‑mile logistics running smoothly: anticipating the conditions you might face, not just the ones you expect.

 

The generator was delivered, lifted, and positioned without issue, a clean result in a location that demanded flexibility, good judgement, and a team comfortable adapting their approach to the environment around them. It’s a clear example of how LIG handle access challenges and manage a job right through to final placement, even when the site throws up obstacles.
